Brazil presents a mix of opportunity and challenge for international businesses. Its 200 million citizens make it the world’s sixth largest country by population, and its GDP – at over USD $3 trillion – makes it the world’s eighth largest economy. But its recent political unrest is well documented, and the economy actually contracted in 2015. While this has kept many foreign companies away, businesses focused on Brazil’s long-term potential continue investing aggressively there.
The country governs data protection through the Brazilian Regulatory Framework for the Internet (BRFI). It requires businesses that collect personal information on individuals to first receive explicit consent. With proper consent, however, Brazil takes a permissive approach to the use of the information. BRFI places few restrictions on allowable uses of the data.
GDC has integrated a comprehensive set of Brazilian data sources from several in-country partners. Through one point of access, we cover 95 percent of the addressable adult population with data from all three major private credit bureaus and the government maintained credit registry plus various additional government, commercial and consumer sources.

With GDC’s Data as a Service model, all data is stored and maintained in Brazil in compliance with the current BRFI. The sources are independent reference data sets that are qualified for identity verification use cases, and they are reliably updated and maintained by GDC’s data partners. No personally identifiable information leaves the source databases in the process of verifying identities.

Identity Verification Partners
The GDC global identity verification platform integrates the best available data and verification intelligence curated from our dozens of in-country partners. Each partner maintains identity verification solutions in their home country, helping in-country clients solve a variety of business problems. They deliver the most reliable identity verification results because they speak the language, understand the regulatory environment, and offer local expertise.
Before joining the consortium, partners are required to go through a thorough vetting process, and their data must pass rigorous testing before it is released to GDC customers. But once they qualify to participate, they are our true partners and a big part of the GDC difference.
